Introduction to Sports Concussion Management for Nurses

This online course will inform participants of the steps to take after witnessing a possible head injury during a sporting event. Participants will increase their knowledge as they learn at their own pace through audio and visual descriptions, knowledge checks, and a Learning Assessment at the conclusion of the course. Topics addressed in this course include the causes and symptoms of concussion, pre-game planning and preparation, immediate response and assessment, and proper post-concussion progression.
Highlights of this online course include:
·Basic understanding of concussion itself and how to distinguish it from other head and brain injuries
• How concussions occur and commonly occurring symptoms
• How to plan for an emergency before it happens and being prepared for serious head injury if it occurs
• The most important steps to take immediately following a head injury
• When and how to safely move an athlete off of the field, and when NOT to
• Follow-up steps that should be taken during recovery and return to sport
Once you complete all of the activities in this course and earn an 80% or better on the Learning Assessment, you will receive a Statement of Credit.
